MEYSPRING’s Artist of the Month - March 2021

Congrats, Sam + Sea Artistry!

MEYSPRING Artist of the Month

We are excited to share with you MEYSPRING’s Artist of the Month, Sam Hiegel | Ocean Resin Art!

Sam + Sea Artistry is the brand of Sam Hiegel, a talented, kind-hearted, and highly dedicated artist. Even during a recent cross-country move, she seems to have prioritized her passion for creating and selling beautiful pieces, which is a feat in itself and really shows her dedication to her work! Here at MEYSPRING, we are proud to be a part of her creative journey!

She creates beautiful ocean-inspired pieces with traditional colors and even more unique ones with sunset and sunrise hues. Her sunny personality truly shines through in her artwork! We always enjoy her uniquely shaped boards such as States, pineapples, whale tales, and more!

Meet the Artist

Sam Hiegel is a visual artist and proud military spouse. She is inspired by the crystal coastlines of North Carolina beaches, the rugged terrain of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and everything in between.

We’ve spoken with Sam for a bit of insight about her work!

How long have you been working with resin?

I have been working with resin for almost three years now. I was fascinated with the complexity of working with resin, so I began experimenting with the scientific elements of the process on a smaller scale. After a few months (and a whole lot of learning moments), I started getting the hang of it. My goal was to develop a brand that captures the beauty of the earth and turns it into a functional, original artwork. I remained focused and wanted to invest my time and energy into the growth of my business, Sam + Sea Artistry.

What is your favorite pigment color?

Ohhh, that’s a tough one. I can’t live without my blues and greens so my very favorite pigment color would have to be MEYSPRING Turquoise Blue! It really captures the whimsical beauty of some of my favorite elements of the earth while also adding that gorgeous shimmer!

What makes/made you choose MEYSPRING pigments

I am a self-taught resin artist, so most of my initial time and energy went into researching. Researching techniques, project ideas, chemical balance, supply choices, etc. I found MEYSPRING to be a stunning choice that gave me everything I wanted in a pigment powder, and the quality of your products remains unmatched!

Where do you find your inspiration and/or motivation?

As a military family, we are lucky enough to often move around and see the beauty that our country has to offer. From living near the Atlantic Ocean to the deserts on the west coast, Mother Earth plays a significant role in my daily life. So much so that I found myself naturally creating with the shimmering blues/greens to represent the ocean- my happiest place. It’s where my husband and I fell in love, where my family always visited as a child. The sea is my source of peace + healing. I wouldn’t be who I am today without it.

Any words of advice for artists that are wanting to create Resin Art?

Just start. It feels scary, but if you want to try something - just try. We don’t always know what the future holds, so if you feel like gathering materials for a resin project for the first time today - I encourage you to do so. You will never know unless you go for it. Your art community is here to support you but what’s most important is that you make the jump and go for something that interests you, makes you happy, or challenges you. Chances are - you’ll amaze yourself :)

Congratulations again to Sam on winning this month’s MEYSPRING Artist of the Month!
