MEYSPRING Artist of the Month – October 2026

Congratulations to Melissa Spade of Lowtide Studio, our MEYSPRING Artist of the Month for October 2026!

We’re so excited to celebrate her creative journey! Based in Palm Harbor, Florida, she brings the peaceful spirit of the shoreline into colorful resin bowls and ocean-inspired home décor. Her work reflects a love of the water and the persistence to keep experimenting—one pour at a time.

A creative streak that started on the walls

That creative streak emerged at an early age. By three or four, she was already drawing on her bedroom walls, and even a fresh coat of paint couldn’t stop her! Much to her mother’s dismay, the room kept becoming a canvas. Her mother always knew she would be an artist in some way and supported that creative spark.

A couple of years ago, that lifelong desire to create led her to resin. She was drawn to its free-flowing nature and the excitement of never knowing exactly how a piece would turn out.

“I have always wanted to create things that brought beauty and comfort into people's lives.”

That near-the-water feeling

With their sweeping blues and rippled edges, these pieces clearly reflect her love of the shoreline. But her inspiration goes beyond color. She wants her work to bring the same peace and comfort she feels near the water into every home it reaches.

Making art brings that same calm into her own life. Between working full-time and pursuing her studio projects, finding enough time to create can be challenging. When she has to step away, she can’t wait to return, a feeling many fellow makers will recognize.

“Being creative brings so much peace into my soul.”

Why MEYSPRING? Rich color and room to explore

She discovered MEYSPRING early in her resin journey. What began with a few pigments quickly grew into a much larger collection, and her enthusiasm says it all:

“I got a couple of Meyspring pigments early on and just loved the richness and how highly pigmented they are. So, I bought a bunch more and just love them!”

Her most-reached-for trio is Opulent Tanzanite, Pacific Blue, and Turquoise Blue. She loves the richness and depth they bring to her coastal creations.

“And mixing them together brings even more possibilities.”

Sometimes, experimenting with her own color blends brings a surprise. One piece combining Opulent Tanzanite and Turquoise Blue finished greener than she expected—and she loved the result. That openness to an unexpected color is part of the fun as well.

Coastal lazy Susan

In this wooden lazy Susan, her favorite MEYSPRING trio brings the shoreline to life while allowing the natural wood grain to shine through the colorful resin.

She also experiments with adding pigment paste to these color mixes, testing different ratios for a more opaque, deeper-water effect.

Take her Mermaid bowl: Pacific Blue meets Mermaid Dust in a flowing shape, with gold flecks and a gold rim adding a gorgeous finishing touch. Those curling edges deserve a closer look.

Then there’s Sunlit Tide, pairing Pacific Blue and Turquoise Blue with neutral shale. It’s another lovely expression of the same coastal inspiration, with its own shape, movement, and character.

Keep going. The waves are worth it.

The ocean effects took practice. Wave boards have been her biggest challenge, from preparing the wood to finding a resin that worked well around the edges. Figuring out those steps has helped things start coming together, and each board holds a special place in her creative journey.

Her encouragement for anyone working through a frustrating pour comes straight from experience:

“I've had lots of frustrating moments but when you find something that works, it is all worth it!”

More to make, more to share

There’s plenty to look forward to at Lowtide Studio. She’s been preparing collections of bowls and lazy Susans and building inventory for an online shop on her recently launched website. When she steps away from work and the studio, you might find her unwinding over a game of pool.

We’re thrilled to share her story and celebrate her work. For her, this spotlight is also an opportunity to meet fellow makers, celebrate their shared passion, and feel part of an incredible creative community.

“I would just like to thank you for spotlighting artists and giving us a chance to talk about what we do and where we are going.”

Melissa, thank you for sharing your creative journey, hard-earned discoveries, and love of making with the MEYSPRING community. We’re so proud to be part of your story and can’t wait to see what you create next!
