We’re excited to introduce you to Chantz Axelson of Custom Grains, our Artist of the Month - May 2022! Chantz is an absolute go-getter and TikTok viral sensation! His signature engraved wood and resin honeycomb boards are amongst his most popular, and we can’t get enough of them!
He also shares excellent behind-scenes footage and tips on his social media channels. Chantz’s dedication to his craft is top-notch.

Tell us more about yourself!
I live in Central Minnesota with my wife and a fantastic daughter who truly brings joy to our lives. My family’s favorite hobbies are exploring MN/WI State parks, hiking, and sightseeing! Our 2022-2023 goal is to visit all 66 state parks; thankfully, my kiddo loves a good road trip! She also loves gymnastics, and it makes me so happy to see her grow in that sport.
In 2016, I started Custom Grains by making wooden products solely for friends and family. Selling to strangers was not a thing until 2021, when I became active on my social media accounts for the very first time. Surprisingly, I now make charcuterie boards, cutting boards, serving trays, and small odds and ends personalized to customers all across the United States. To be honest, this is scary cause you can't see the customer's face when they love/hate the product :)
How long have you been working with resin?
I’ve been working with resin for three years now.
What makes/made you choose MEYSPRING pigments?
That’s, by far, the most popular question I get on social media: "Why do you like MEYSPRING products!?" And I love these pigments because of the quality, pricing, customer support, and overall fantastic company. There are also a ton of unique colors to choose from!
What is your favorite pigment color or color scheme?
I find myself especially inclined to MEYSPRING Pacific Blue and Wine Red.
Where do you find your inspiration or motivation?
Nothing like my clients saying they loved their product! That's what fuels my fire and truly motivates me to keep going!
How much time do you dedicate to your resin art?
I dedicate a minimum of forty hours per week to my craft.
What are your goals for your artistic journey?
My goal is to run Custom Grains full-time!
What is the most significant "Aha moment" you've had while creating resin pieces?
When I started making honeycomb charcuterie boards, one of my TikTok videos went viral, and it currently has 12.9 Million views! Ever since then, I honestly can't keep up with production! Discovering the tremendous power of Social Media, specially TikTok, it’s certainly my most significant “Aha moment.”
What advice, tips, or tricks would you like to share with aspiring resin artists?
Never regret making a mistake! We all make mistakes, and that’s how you’ll learn and grow! Also, never give up on your personal/financial goals! Instead, commit and do your best.
