How long have you been working with resin?

I started working with resin 3 years ago this month. I stumbled upon it as a new artistic medium I wanted to try, and I was looking for a way to get back into painting/creating with my hands off a computer or device.

Tell us more about yourself!

My dream was always to become some sort of artist - being creative and making beautiful things. I’ve always loved experimenting with mediums and various types of “practical/functional” art. Throughout my life, I’ve dabbled in fashion design, architecture, floral design, cake decorating, interior design, industrial 3D CAD drawing, woodworking, photography, calligraphy, and so many others, including the basics, of course; painting, sculpting, and sketching. I decided on Graphic Design and Marketing as my career choice as it was a new and exciting industry when I was in college. It seemed like a great combination of artistic growth yet still a financially viable career in this new world of technology.

After working for years at advertising agencies, I married and moved to a new city with my husband. We started our home-based company merging our professional skills: Graphic Design and Web/App Development, which we still own and run today. We now have 3 children, and working from home has been such a blessing (albeit demanding and chaotic at times!) as we watch our kids grow and become amazing people every day. We said goodbye to our wonderful 16-year-old dog, Coco, in 2020; we still miss him all the time.

What makes/made you choose MEYSPRING pigments?

I first fell in love with MEYSPRING’s Gemstones Collection- so many beautiful, shiny colors!

What is your favorite pigment color and/or color scheme?

My current favorites are Imperial Emerald and Opulent Tanzanite. Both are so regal and rich in their coloring.

Where do you find your inspiration and/or motivation?

I find inspiration in the most random of things - home decor, clothing, baked goods, makeup, video games, nature, and of course, my Indian culture.

How much time do you dedicate to your resin art?

For the last 3 years, my resin-creating hours have been 11 pm - 3 am (sometimes even 4 or 5 am!) nightly after my kids and husband are asleep, and the house is quiet with no distractions.

What are your goals for your artistic journey?

My artistic journey will continue until my last breath. I can’t imagine my life without creating art. I’m always thinking about new things I want to try and mixing mediums in ways that I haven’t seen or tried before. It’s such a fun process, and it’s a massive part of who I am.

Do you have any tips or tricks you'd like to share and/or your most significant "Aha moment" you've had creating resin pieces?

One of the biggest things I’ve realized is that social media can both, help and harm the creative process and even the artistic spirit. Many people find it very inspiring to see what others are out there creating, while some find it very intimidating because they compare their work to others and wonder if theirs is good enough. Another detriment is the social media numbers game: we start valuing our work based on the number of shares, likes and comments it gets.

I’ve caught myself doing this, especially in my earlier Instagram days - I’d create something I love and think others will love it too. Still, for whatever reason, the algorithm has a bad day, and then suddenly, I’m second-guessing if the piece was as good as I initially thought.

We must create items we love and represent our art style and abilities. No two artists will have the exact same style. And we should strive to be different so we can each be recognized for how unique we are, not how well we can blend in with the Instagram Discovery feed.
