MEYSPRING Artist of the Month - February 2023

February has been quite the month for our Brand Ambassador, Krystal Vasquez, aka @islaluna_co. On top of being our Artist of the Month winner, we’re delighted to share the news of her recent engagement - that just happened on her birthday weekend!  To say we’re very excited for her would be an understatement. 

If you’re part of the MEYSPRING Community, you’re bound to recognize Krystal’s signature resin-pouring clips featuring various color schemes. However, when it comes to resin art, she does it all. Her resin geodes, casting artwork, ocean scenes, and coasters are superb!

Meet the Artist

We’ve gotten the behind-the-scenes action with Krystal about her lifestyle, hobbies, inspiration and goals. Keep reading to learn more!

Krystal, tell us a little about yourself!

I grew up and currently reside in Southern California, where I feel so lucky to live, as the desert and the beach are both only an hour away. I have a daughter named Isla, whom my small business is named after, and I have a wonderful partner, Noel. 

Some fun facts about me: 

• I enjoy traveling. My favorite places to visit are tropical destinations.
• I am an animal lover. Every animal I've owned has been a rescue, or I found on the street. 
• I'm terrified of scary movies, but am a sucker for anything involving zombies. 
• I have a full-time job and also help Noel at his Taekwondo studios.  
• I enjoy working out just as much as I like eating and trying new foods.

What inspired you to become an artist?

I was drawn to create for the peace it brings me. It's time to myself where I can unwind, be free, and learn more about myself and the capabilities I never knew I had. It's finding the beauty in nature and wanting to recreate the same beauty for my home and others.

How long have you been working with resin?

I’ve been working with resin for about 2 years. I still feel like a newbie and constantly researching and learning.

What makes/made you choose MEYSPRING pigments?

I like MEYSPRING for the quality of their pigments. The way the pigments move and shift in resin is something I hadn't found before. MEYSPRING has some of the most beautiful colors, and a little goes a long way. I also like how they can be mixed to create even more beautiful, one-of-a-kind colors.

I really like the company as a whole due to their friendliness, customer service, and willingness to help with any questions.

What is your favorite pigment color and/or color scheme?

I have so many! I like all the earth tone pigments. Right now, my favorites are Bronze Stone, Turquoise Blue, White Chalcedony, White Pearl, and Pure Copper. 

I also really like Shiny Malachite and Rose Quartz. It's hard to pick a few.

Where do you find your inspiration?

I find my inspiration in nature and its beauty. I have always been drawn to gemstones. Upon picking color schemes, I will sometimes find inspiration from my personal stones, and let the creativity flow. Other times, I will try to mimic the colors and style of lace agates. You can see these in my dirty pours.

What are your goals for your artistic journey?

My goals are to continue bettering my skill. I'd love to continue to create beautiful tables that are functional, one-of-a-kind pieces of art. I've been practicing wall art and hope to tackle it and create larger pieces eventually. I'd like to incorporate other mediums as well.

What is your most significant "Aha moment" while creating resin pieces?

I feel my most significant “aha moments” have come with practice, trial, and error. These moments have come throughout my resin journey and reminded me to be patient. These moments have humbled me, as things aren't always as easy as they seem.

What advice would you like to share with aspiring resin artists?

I'd say do your research. Always wear PPE. Have fun! Don't compare yourself to others. Give yourself time to grow. Meet friends in the resin community. Lend a helping hand to others if needed, and don't be afraid to ask questions.
