MEYSPRING Artist of the Month - November 2026

Congratulations to Carol Bear of Blue Fin Studios, MEYSPRING’s Artist of the Month for November 2026!
The idea that someone would choose her artwork to decorate their home still feels surreal to Carol Bear. She takes great pride in her work as a registered nurse in Anacortes, Washington, but becoming the artist behind Blue Fin Studios was an unexpected turn. Now, she is excited to imagine what she will create next.
You must be thinking of someone else
About six years ago, after watching countless resin videos, Carol decided to try it herself. She started with ocean-themed charcuterie boards, handmade in her backyard shed. Glassware came next, followed by wood-and-resin tables as her passion continued to grow.
“If someone had told me 6 years ago, I would be working as a resin artist, I would have told them they were confusing me with someone else.”
She takes great pride in being a nurse. At the hospital, her focus is on the patient and the team working together to help them regain their health. In the studio, she finds a different kind of fulfillment: the quiet freedom to lose herself in the project at hand while imagining what she might create next.
A favorite island, captured in wood
Carol could sit at the ocean’s edge and watch it all day, as this is her primary source of inspiration. One of her favorite islands is Sucia, near her home in Anacortes, Washington, with its horseshoe shape and several bays.
When a piece of wood reminded her of that familiar outline, she reached for her tried-and-true MEYSPRING Turquoise Blue mica powder to create her own rendition. The result is the Sucia Island table pictured on this feature’s cover: a favorite place, reimagined in wood and resin. We have added the process video below for your reference.
Two blues, and room to play
Carol found MEYSPRING pigments early in her resin journey, and two colors have stayed with her ever since: Turquoise Blue and Pacific Blue. They remain her go-to choices for ocean-inspired designs, whether she is following the natural grain of a wood tabletop or recreating resin ocean waves. But she has also played with other MEYSPRING micas like Olive Gold on a wood-and-resin table, and it didn't disappoint.
Glassware embellishment offers Carol another creative outlet, giving her the freedom to experiment with a wide range of colors. The flexibility of the medium is part of what makes the process so relaxing, and its practice has taken her beyond shades of blue to golden hues, like our Royal Gold, which you can watch her pour in the video below.
A large commissioned table is a different story. As Carol puts it, there are “no do-overs!” and those pours can be stressful. Still, the possibilities keep her curious, whether she is exploring a new wood species, testing another color combination, or drawing inspiration from a fellow resin artist.
A little grace for the experiments
In the beginning, Carol did not want to waste resin or charcuterie boards. Trying to protect those materials made learning harder than it needed to be. What changed was her willingness to give herself room and grace to practice.
“Now, I give myself the freedom to play with different colors on a board or glass and sometimes it works out to become inventory and if it doesn’t, that’s ok too.”
Still discovering what comes next
Larger tables are on Carol’s mind, and she is considering doors made of resin and wood, which she finds stunning.
For anyone still wondering whether they have a creative side, Carol offers the conviction of someone who once would never have called herself a resin artist:
“I truly believe everyone is an artist in something and if you don’t think you are, well, you just haven’t discovered it yet. God has blessed me and I am so grateful.”
Carol, thank you very much for sharing your story, the work you are proud of, and the permission you have learned to give yourself. We’re delighted to celebrate Blue Fin Studios and the artist you discovered in that backyard shed.
