We’re delighted to introduce you to MEYSPRING’s Artist of the Month, Shéniece Smith from @shenpop_art! Her vibrant personality and beautiful resin art pieces have wowed us and many others in the Resin Art Community. No matter the project, she carefully curates them to create fantastic results!

Tell us more about yourself!

I am a 29-year-old Florida-based artist from the beautiful British Virgin Islands (BVI), or as many refer to it, "Nature's Little Secret.” Being from the islands, naturally, I LOVE the beach, which is truly my happy place. So much so that I moved from Orlando, FL, to Daytona Beach, FL, just to be closer to one. 

A fun fact about me is I have a 7-year-old kitty that I adopted, named Cenisa. I’m a HUGE foodie; Sushi is one of my favorite foods, and Pho is a close second. I also enjoy dancing to soca and reggae music and talking to my artsy friends about resin art. 

I work full-time as a Microbiology Lab Technician at a pharmaceutical plant and currently make my art part-time.

How long have you been working with resin?

I've been working with resin for almost three years now. After discovering resin art on Youtube, I started practicing it to help manage my anxiety as I wasn't happy where I was. I'm so glad I decided to go on this journey because I've learned so much, met amazing people, and formed many amazing friendships, which I'm so grateful for.

 What makes/made you choose MEYSPRING pigments?

The pigments have awesome quality, and I get such beautiful vibrant pieces every time. Also, I love MEYSPRING’s social media presence and the way they celebrate artists.

What is your favorite pigment color and/or color scheme?

This is a tricky question, but I love MEYSPRING’s Tropical Blue. It’s the best shade of aqua blue I’ve ever seen! In general, my favorite colors are pink and blue.

Where do you find your inspiration and/or motivation?

I get my inspiration from nature, the BVI, and my mom’s unique talent of thinking way outside the box. Together, they’ve inspired my love for trying something everyone else is doing and infusing it with my own style.

How much time do you dedicate to your resin art?

Honestly, it feels like 24/7, 365! I constantly think about ideas or projects I can either start or need to finish. However, the physical labor I dedicate to my craft can be between 10 hours a week to 25 or 30 hours, depending on what I’m working on.

What are your goals for your artistic journey?

I want to make this my full-time job one day. I genuinely love doing what I do, and I can only imagine all the awesome things I could make if I had more free time and energy to let my creativity flow.

I also hope to teach classes or host events, attend art fairs as a vendor, and meet more awesome resin friends one day.

What is the most significant "Aha moment" you've in your creative journey?

My biggest “aha moment” has to be when I figured out the style of foam I liked in my ocean resin art. For the life of me, I couldn’t get the waves to look how I wanted.

Once, in the middle of creating an ocean-inspired piece, I walked away from the resin I had already poured. Then when I returned to do the foam part, the waves turned out to be so gorgeous; I learned that I just needed to give it more time and be more patient when working with resin.

What advice, tips, or tricks would you like to share with aspiring resin artists?

Keep practicing and give yourself grace! Comparison is the thief of joy. Enjoy your growth, and embrace the flops and failures as learning opportunities.

Some people won’t be supportive the way you thought they would be, and that’s okay! Stay focused and invest in your craft; you've got this!
