Congrats, Fat Cat Woodworks!

We’re pleased to introduce you to the talented craftsman Bill Goodman of @fatcatwoodworks! But, of course, we can’t forget the real star of the show, the boss cat, Ahsoka, who makes her celebrity appearances and provides the “Fat Cat” seal of approval for Bill's creations! 

All jokes aside, Bill creates some awe-inspiring woodworking feats that always blow us away with their designs, effects, and color choices, most recently with some stunning DIY Shades with MEYSPRING Pigments! We genuinely look forward to seeing his business and following grow into a household name.

Tell us more about yourself!

I've been a lifelong weightlifter and trainer for over a decade, as well as a former professional guitar player.  My wife and I have 3 cats and enjoy arguing about Sci-Fi in our spare time.  

The beautiful pieces I make would not be possible without the help of my QC Chief (my wife) and my Chief Sanding Officer (my mom).  

What inspired you to become an artist/woodworker?

My dad. He taught me how to run a saw when I was a kid, but when I hit my teens, I started to restore/repair and finish guitars which morphed into cabinetry, furniture and décor.

How long have you been working with resin?

Only 2 years.

What makes/made you choose MEYSPRING pigments?

The Two Tone Collection contains the most attractive color combinations I've found and quickly became my favorite colors to use.

What is your favorite pigment color and/or color scheme?

Blue Calcite with Oak Burl or Spalted Maple!

Where do you find your inspiration or motivation?

The natural beauty of wood and arguing over design with my QC Chief (my wife) over cheap beer.

How much time do you dedicate to your craft?

40 hours a week, on the low end.

What are your goals in this journey?

Make beautiful pieces that our cats can be proud of.  Also our customers. 

But on a more serious note, it would be nice to move the shop out of our basement and open a storefront in town.

What is the most significant "Aha moment" while creating resin pieces?

Making sure there is air circulating under the mold after a deep pour. Apparently, there is some delicate science involved. It only takes one frothy, warped table to get that right!

What advice, tips, or tricks would you like to share with beginners?

With bigger pours, less is more.  Don't touch it so much; just let the wood's beauty and color work its charm.
