MEYSPRING Artist of the Month - April 2022

Congrats, Studio Sweet T!

We are thrilled to introduce Teyanna Marx of Studio Sweet T as MEYSPRING’s Artist of the Month! We’ve been lucky enough to witness her growth as an exceptional mixed media artist over the last year, and we feel so proud to be a part of her creative journey. She mainly works with epoxy resin and acrylic paints, featuring bright, multi-colored schemes, delivering distinctive pieces of artwork.

MEYSPRING Resin Artist of the Month

Teyanna has recently joined the MEYSPRING Brand Ambassador team, and we are so eager to see what’s in store! See below just some of the beauties she creates with MEYSPRING Pigments.

Tell us more about yourself!

Here are a few fun facts about me!

I grew up on my family's farm outside of Madison, WI, where we grow corn, wheat, and soybeans and even have 10 acres of vineyards to support a local winery and distillery (Wollersheim Winery & Distillery). On top of our many animals, we have a herd of farm cats.

After receiving my Master’s degree in Animal Sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I assumed a marketing role at the Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection. Today, I have a full-time job as a social media marketer at an agency specializing in animal agriculture.

I love horses and trail riding with my best friend on the weekends, and I’ve also been teaching and taking dance classes as another creative outlet. My dance background drives my love of expressive movement, and my yoga practice grounds me in all aspects of life. When I have time (ha!), I also enjoy doing musicals.

How long have you been working with resin?

I’ve been working with resin for just one and a half years now.

What makes/made you choose MEYSPRING Pigments?

The colors are so vibrant, and working with them is like butter. Unlike other brands I've tried, they incorporate so well into my resin. In addition, these pigments are so versatile that I can mix them and create new custom colors while maintaining the "MEYSPRING magic".

I think my favorite part is the depth MEYSPRING pigments produce. Colors like Mystic Opal, Imperial Emerald, and White Chalcedony catch the light like none other. Also, I like that the shades shift with the viewing perspective depending on lighting and surroundings.

What is your favorite pigment color or color scheme?

Well, I can't just choose one! Mystic Opal, Imperial Emerald, White Chalcedony, Mermaid Dust, and Tropical Blue are some of my fave standalone pigments.

I also like combining Silver Druzy, White Pearl, and a hint of Dazzling Diamond to make my abalone shell coasters!

Where do you find your inspiration or motivation?

Nature's paintbrush. Growing up on a farm and coming from generations of caretakers of the earth and animals, I've inherited a deep appreciation of nature and the curiosity that comes with it. So usually, my pieces are inspired by our farm’s scenes: sunsets behind the silos, starry night skies in the summertime, or the changing colors in our fields in the fall.

How much time do you dedicate to your resin art?

Roughly 20-25 hrs a week. When owning a small business, creating is a small portion of it! I have to take care of marketing, shipping, planning, brainstorming, social media, etc.

What are your goals for your artistic journey?

My main goal is to continue sharing my art in the community. I love creating, but the way art brings people together truly fascinates me. Also, it's interesting how people interpret art differently. For instance, others have shared how they’ve interpreted my pieces in so many unexpected ways, leading to exciting conversations about our different perspectives.

What is the most significant "Aha moment" you've had while creating resin pieces?

I feel like I have an "aha" moment every week! I'm constantly learning and trying new techniques. It seems simple, but combining pigments for the first time was one of those - while they come in separate jars, using a couple of MEYSPRING pigments together opened up an entire world of possibilities.

What advice, tips, or tricks would you like to share with aspiring resin artists?

If you're not already - which I believe most artists are - be a lifelong learner willing to take risks. Try new things that you're pretty sure will "fail." It likely won't, which always leads to learnings that evolve over time.

The process of learning (and unlearning) is where you find your voice and values as an artist. Have confidence in your artistic voice and be proud of the process. While your final piece is the destination, it's the journey it took to get there that matters most.

Congratulations again to Teyanna on winning April’s MEYSPRING Artist of the Month!
