MEYSPRING Artist of the Month - April 2024

Congrats, Megan Hogeman!

We’re happy to announce our Artist of the Month Winner for April 2024: Megan Hogeman, aka Miss Meggie Art! She creates delightful mini-works of art that bestow a whimsical, fairy-tale feeling. While her artistic talents cross many realms, her nature-themed UV resin jewelry constantly has us in awe! She uses MEYSPRING pigments as the base for each piece, creating an eye-catching background for the lovely details embedded in her jewelry.

Tell us more about yourself!

Oh boy, at this point, I have to talk myself out of new hobbies since I’ve been collecting them since I was little! Of course, my favorite is anything that feeds the creativity I crave daily. Other than creating with resin, I love to wood burn, paint (acrylic pouring mostly), make jewelry, and teach art classes. I am also a big fan of indoor plants! Talk about something you can accumulate to an extreme. IYKYK. I also love dogs and all animals. I dogsit all the time, and I even fostered 5 kittens and their Mama last summer - and I only kept 3 of them!

Most of all, I love spending time and doing just about anything with my 7-year-old son, Ollie. He’s the best, so creative and fashion-forward - I will never be as cool as him, no matter how hard I try. He paints with me, draws, and helps me forage for all the nature I preserve and put into my jewelry. Mushroom hunting is our favorite. It’s just the two of us, so the world is our oyster!

What inspired you to become an artist?

I thank my lucky stars for coming from a very artistic family from both sides. I have always loved to draw and create! When I was much younger, I would get my sisters hand-me-downs or Goodwill clothes which never fit since I was so much shorter than everybody. So, I asked my Mom to teach me how to sew so I could make them fit me.

Next thing I know, I’m drawing designs and pumping out clothes and purses like crazy! Besides that, I would watch my Dad fix things constantly and build things with wood. Being a bit of a tomboy, I also loved wood shop in school. Why buy it when you can make it, ya know?

How long have you been working with resin?

I have been working with resin for about 7 years!

What made you choose MEYSPRING pigments?

I have tried A LOT of different pigments and would try them, then move on to the next brand to experiment with. Once I got my hands on MEYSPRING pigments, I was hooked and never went back. They have unbeatable vibrance; a little goes a long way, and they just blend to the most perfect and smooth consistency. I’m obsessed.

What is your favorite color scheme?

This is tough to choose! Well, I love dark gem tones like teals, purples, and deep blues. My favorite MEYSPRING colors have to be Shiny Malachite, Opulent Tanzanite, Imperial Emerald, Pacific Blue… I could keep going, but I’ll stop!

Where do you find your inspiration?

I get it mostly from my mood! My mind is constantly swimming in a very dreamy place. Sometimes, it’s lovely, and other times, it’s a bit “different.” There’s a lot of magic in there, and I am SO grateful that after all these years of how confusing that was to grow up with, I have found my own personal way to “art it out” and express myself in my creations. Art has truly saved me, and it’s my favorite form of therapy.

How much time do you dedicate to your craft?

I honestly make art every day, working on multiple projects at once, so I never get bored. If I am not physically pouring resin, I am foraging for nature to preserve, cutting or sanding wood for prep, or cleaning up/polishing already-made pieces. It’s a constant flow, and I love it.

What is the most significant "Aha moment" you've had?

I will never forget the moment when I finally figured out how to make beautiful bubbles in my resin and alcohol ink coasters! It changed my whole outlook on my growth as a resin artist.

What advice would you like to share with aspiring creators?

I always make sure to tell all my students in any resin class that I have made countless mistakes and still do all the time! Don’t let it discourage you. You just learned a lesson on how to improve your skills because of it! Also, never create with resin when you’re in a hurry, always wear protection, and most importantly, have fun and experiment. You never know when you will have YOUR aha moment!

As an artist who has struggled with ADD my entire life, it is so easy to get frustrated, distracted, and overwhelmed. When any of those negative feelings start to come up, just tweak your atmosphere. Change your playlist, put whatever you’re working on down, take a step back, and breathe. Tidy up your space, and try again with a fresh mindset!

Congratulations again to Megan on winning MEYSPRING Artist of the Month - April 2024!
